The median nerve runs through the passage of the wrist also said as carpal tunnel and terminates in the hand. The swelling also occurs in the flexor tendons surrounding the median nerve. It causes weakness in the hand along with numbness and tingling. Still, the exact cause is not found, but it can happen due to repetitive motions of the wrist. Several diseases like hyperthyroidism and obesity can be the risk factors for it. There is a test which doctors usually do to diagnose carpal tunnel, and that is the Tinel sign.
